Christmas Festivities at The Equine Shop!
We are holding a festive day at The Equine Shop on Saturday 13th December and everyone is welcome! Refreshments will be available.
There will be a Christmas 'stable' featuring 'Millie' the giant Poitou donkey, owned by the managers of Lluest Horse & Pony Trust.
Millie is 8 years old and was born at Banham Zoo in Norfolk on St George's day 2000. She is a Poitou donkey, a rare French breed used by farmers for all types of work and crossed with French heavy horses to breed the most enormous mules you have ever seen... the jack donkey can reach up to 16 hands, the jenny about 15...Millie is 14 hands at one end and 14.2 hands at the other and it looks like she is still growing....
Millie has a rare sense of humour as do all donkeys and did her star turn carrying the Virgin Mary last Christmas and is soon to do a repeat performance (hopefully) again this year, as well as at Swansea on the 28th November...
Millie loves extra strong mints that she rolls round her mouth while she sucks them...we never give her carrots as they are like e-numbers to a small child, making her hyperactive and very naughty....apples however are very welcome....
Millies job in the not too distant future will be to help us do some tree clearance in the woods at the back of the farm at Lluest Horse & Pony Trust.....Adrian will cut the trees down and Millie will haul them out. She has worked before pulling a cart and harrowing the school so we know she can do it...we just have to make her think it is her idea.....

Saddle Fitting Service
We are pleased to be able to inform our customers that we will shortly be able to offer a saddle fitting service in the local area from an independent saddle fitter, Isobelle Thomas from Pembrokeshire.
Isobelle is a keen competetor in showing and has a special interest in Cobs and Ponies, she has designed her own saddles especially for the wide backed roly poly equines. Her saddles are made in Walsall and will also be available from our shop to order in the near future. We expect prices for these saddles new to start around £695.
